To enhance the competency standards of Indian Seafarers and to upgrade their skills in order to improve their employment potential and to further garner the market Share for Indian Seafarers in the Global Shipping.
To impart:
- Quality maritime education to the Seafarers,
- Upgrade their practical skills using Hands-on skill development techniques, and
- Providing realistic environment for undertaking exercises using full mission Simulation-based programmes,
FOSMA established its Maritime Center in Kolkata on 15th February 2017, at state-of-the-art new premises in Sector V, Salt Lake, a sought-after locality in Kolkata; to upgrade, modernize and augment their facility at Kolkata being run, since 1996, in collaboration with Indian Institute of Port Management (now Indian Maritime University - Kolkata Campus).
In the year 2018, this Maritime Centre added all the Full Mission Simulator Courses for the Navigation functions, Liquid Cargo & Ballast Handling and Engine Room functions (Operations & Management). These Simulators were inaugurated on 17th December 2018 by the Director General of Shipping, Government of India
The Maritime Centre is a mere 20-minute drive from the city’s international airport and is spread over 30,350 sq. feet. This Centre provides quality education, training and certification in all post-sea Competency, Modular and Simulator-based courses with highly experienced faculty, most of whom have of over 15 years’ experience in providing Competency Programmes.
In a Comprehensive Inspection Programme (CIP) conducted by Indian Register of Shipping in April 2023, the Institute was awarded “OUTSTANDING” A1 grade with a score of 92.88%. The Institute is also ISO 9000-2015 certified by Indian Register Quality Systems on 25th July 2020 and is valid till 25th July 2023.
