SOPEX Program

FOSMA has introduced the Safety and Operational Excellence Program (SOPEX) — a structured training initiative designed exclusively for ratings. Developed in collaboration with the ISF Group, the program aims to strengthen safety awareness, operational discipline, and professional competence among Indian seafarers serving on international fleets.

SOPEX integrates Behaviour-Based Safety principles, regulatory compliance, and hands-on operational practices to promote a proactive safety mindset and consistent onboard performance. Through this initiative, FOSMA continues its efforts to support structured skill development and enhance the overall safety culture within the maritime community.

FOSMA / NUSI Indian Structural Marine Fitter Training Course

FOSMA and NUSI have jointly launched a structured training initiative to develop a skilled cadre of Marine Fitters and Pumpmen. Delivered through the NUSI Maritime Academy (Goa) and the DNV-approved NUSI Offshore Training Institute (Panvel), the program combines rigorous classroom learning with extensive hands-on training in machinery maintenance, lathe operations, fitting, gas cutting, and advanced welding techniques.

Designed exclusively for qualified Indian ratings, the program provides a clear career pathway into high-demand marine fitter roles. By spearheading this initiative, FOSMA and NUSI are addressing the global shortage of competent marine fitters and reinforcing India’s position as a leading source of maritime talent, contributing to safer, smarter, and more efficient vessel operations worldwide.
